Most Deepal models come in two forms. The BEV runs on battery alone. The Super Range Extender (EREV) also drives the wheels only with electric motors, but carries a small petrol engine that works purely as a generator — it never drives the wheels directly.
How the range extender works
On short trips the EREV behaves like an EV, running on its Golden Shield battery for 155–300 km CLTC depending on model. When the battery runs low, the engine starts and charges it while you drive. The result is an electric driving feel with combined CLTC ranges of 1,200–1,400 km on the S05, S07 and L07.
When the EREV makes more sense
- Public DC charging is limited or unreliable in your market.
- Vehicles regularly run long intercity or cross-border routes.
- Buyers are new to electric cars and worried about range.
- Grid power is expensive or unstable compared with fuel.
When the BEV makes more sense
- Vehicles return to a depot or home with overnight charging.
- Import duties in your market favour zero-emission vehicles.
- Lowest servicing cost matters — no oil, filters or exhaust.
- Fast-charging stops are available: Deepal 3C batteries charge 30–80% in about 15 minutes.
Duty treatment for BEV and EREV vehicles differs by country, and can swing landed cost more than the vehicle price itself. Send us your destination and we will quote both versions side by side.
